COVID-19 Update:
Given the current uncertain situation and travel restrictions due to the current pandemic, the ERA-EDTA has decided to temporally suspend the ERA-EDTA Fellowship Programme, as the potential fellows might certainly miss one of the most important aspects of the fellowship experience, the ‘networking’.
The ERA-EDTA continues to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic. The Fellowship Programme will be officially restored until the global circumstances improve and fellows will be able to access host institutions and carry on their research activities.
WHAT THEY ARE
The ERA-EDTA Registry Fellowships are designed to enable young people living in Europe, countries bordering Europe and the Mediterranean Sea to perform research on Registry data and to train in clinical epidemiology.
The Research Registry Fellowships are aimed at supporting Registry related activities of the Association (e.g. ERA-EDTA Registry, ESPN/ERA-EDTA Registry, EURODOPPS).
WHERE THEY ARE PERFORMED
For 2020 the ERA-EDTA Registry Fellowships will be performed at ERA-EDTA Registry office in the Netherlands at the Amsterdam University Medical Center (AMC). The Fellows will be supervised by members of the Registry staff.
WHAT IT IS OFFERED
The ERA-EDTA Registry Fellowships have a duration of a minimum of 4 weeks (28 days) to a maximum of 6 weeks (42 days).
The granted amounts are between € 4,000 and € 6,000 (depending on the duration of the Fellowship) and are supposed to cover travel and housing.
WHO CAN APPLY
Only ERA-EDTA Full members who are 40 or younger at the time of submission can apply.
The ERA-EDTA Registry Fellowships are
- Open to (paediatric) nephrologists or nephrology researchers (<40 years of age) from the ERA-EDTA geographic area.*
- The research proposal must use one of the data sets available at the ERA-EDTA Registry Office (ERA-EDTA Registry, ESPN/ERA-EDTA Registry or EURODOPPS data).
- Fellowships must have the aim of scientific publication.
HOW TO APPLY
The Call is open from March 5, 2020 and will close on April 30, 2020 (deadline for applications).
In order to submit your Fellowship request you must fill in the online form accessible (to ERA-EDTA members) via My ERA-EDTA then click on ‘My Member Benefits‘ and select ‘Short Term Clinical Fellowship‘.
Please note that if you would like to apply for a Registry fellowship to work on data from the EURODOPPS project, you should also submit a separate Research Application Form to the EURODOPPS selection committee. Any EURODOPPS project is subject to the approval of this selection committee and Arbor Research. More information and the Research Application Form can be found at www.era-edta-reg.org/EURODOPPS
Additional information on the application and the selection:
1) First (optional) step: if you are interested in an ERA-EDTA Registry fellowship you can send a short proposal with title, research question and short description of planned analysis to the Registry by e-mail to j.r.bosdriesz@amsterdamumc.nl. The Registry staff will then judge if the research project is possible (i.e. availability of data) and relevant. If this is the case, you will be invited to submit a more comprehensive research proposal via the online application form.
2) Second (mandatory) step: It is also possible to submit a proposal for an ERA-EDTA Registry Fellowship without consulting the Registry staff first. The application (by April 30, 2020) via the online application form is however mandatory.
3) The candidate will be selected by a small committee selected by the ERA-EDTA Registry and then needs to be approved by the ERA-EDTA Council. A proposal must have obtained minimum score for acceptance. In case of doubt the SAB (Chair; Co-Chair and Secretary-Coordinator) will be consulted.
