Francesco was born in Italy in 1981 and graduated in Medicine at the University of Bari, where he also completed his residency program in Nephrology. Thanks to two long-term fellowships from “ERA-EDTA” and one “Marie Curie” he thereafter moved to London for five years, where he received his PhD from the “Department of Cardiovascular Genetics and Genomics” and worked as research fellow at the “Department of Genomics of Common Disease”, Imperial College London. During his PhD he implemented a translational genomics approach to dissect mechanisms of heart failure and recovery integrating –omics data from human and animal models. In particular, he is an expert in Systems Genetics and Biostatistics in the context of high-throughput data.
He applied different bioinformatic techniques to study glomerulonephritis and complex diseases (e.g.: obesity) and has published in top journals such as Nature Genetics, Nature Communications, Journal of the American Society of Nephrology and Kidney International.
He has a strong collaboration with computer scientists and is involved in Technology Transfer engaging academic and industry communities on-campus.
