Björn Meijers was born in the Netherlands in 1977. He is married to Sibylle Masi (vascular surgeon) and is the proud father of two daughters.
After finishing high school he moved from the Netherlands to Belgium to study medicine at the KU Leuven. After graduation in 2002 he started his training in internal medicine and became a licensed nephrologist in 2011. During his training, he obtained a PhD (2009) from the KU Leuven, exploring the role of protein bound uremic retention solutes including p-cresol.
He currently is a clinical staff member at the University Hospitals Leuven, one of the largest hospitals in Europe. He is tenured staff at the KU Leuven, where he teaches in the school of Medicine and the school of Dentistry.
He enjoys spending time with his family, enjoying holidays in France and Italy. When time allows him to, he aims to read on history.
