ABOUT
SCIENTIFIC RATIONALE
Covid-19 has tremendously changed the world in general, but certainly also the management of organ transplant recipients. We have increased our knowledge on how to organize our transplant programs during a pandemic and greatly expanded our experience in self-management and telemonitoring of patients. Furthermore, by collecting data on the epidemiology of Covid-19, patient characteristics and outcomes, we have learned how to identify and manage patients who are at special risk. Hopefully, we have also improved in handling immunosuppressive therapy and other treatment options to combat this new disease.
Meanwhile, other important scientific developments have proceeded. Improvements in organ preservation, refinement of HLA matching, modulation of the complement system, and personalized immunosuppression have all moved forward the successes of organ transplantation.
This 6th edition of the Clinical Transplantation day will address the lessons learned from the Covid-19 pandemic and focus on various aspects of patient-oriented treatment and some of the latest developments in organ transplantation.
