What does it mean to be an ERA-EDTA Member?

Being a Member of ERA-EDTA means being part of one of the most important and prestigious European Medical Associations. The ERA-EDTA is an Association whose purpose is to encourage and to report advances in the field of clinical nephrology, dialysis, renal transplantation and related subjects.

ERA-EDTA membership follows the calendar year, January-December.

Membership Categories (Active* Members)

 ERA-EDTA cat. AFull Members 

Are Full members who live in Europe and in the countries bordering Europe and the Mediterranean Sea. Included in their annual membership fee is a free online and print subscription to NDT (Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation).

ERA-EDTA cat. BFull Members 

Are Full members who live in Europe and in the countries bordering Europe and the Mediterranean Sea. Included in their annual membership fee is a free online subscription to NDT (Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation) – not given/sent to members who pay the “Reduced Fee”.

ERA-EDTA cat. A/BAssociate Members 

Associate Members are those members living in all the other Countries. They are entitled to the same benefits and discounts as the Full members except to apply for ERA-EDTA Fellowships, being elected for office in the ERA-EDTA bodies, boards and awards and vote.

ERA-EDTA cat. B Junior members 

Both Associate and Full members who are up to 40 years old or younger can apply for Junior membership status.  This allows them to receive all the advantages for ERA-EDTA members cat. B, by paying a special discounted annual membership fee. The benefits differ according if a member is Full or Associate.

When applying for junior membership, new members are required to send a scanned copy of their document where the birth date is clearly written.

ERA-EDTA cat. A and B Special Discounted fees

These special discounted membership fees are reserved to members living in all countries, of which the annual income (GDP – Gross Domestic Product per Capita) according to the World Bank database, must be below UDS 10.000. Click here to check all countries. If a member lives and works in one of these countries, they are entitled to pay these special discounted fees.

The benefits differ according if a member is Full or Associate.

ERA-EDTA cat. A and B Senior members

Both Associate and Full members who have been so for more than 15 consecutive and uninterrupted years, who have reached 60 years of age and who have retired from practice, can become a Senior Member of the ERA-EDTA. Senior Membership status is NOT given automatically, but must be requested to the ERA-EDTA Membership Office membership@era-edta.org  . The benefits differ according if a member is Full or Associate

ERA-EDTA Cat. C members

Congress members will receive specific benefits for up to 2 years from the last congress they have participated in.

*Active members are those members who have settled their current membership fee

How to become an ERA-EDTA member cat. A/B

In order to become a member you must first fill in the Application and payment forms.

-Make sure that you enter your current and correct e-mail address, as all the information, from the ERA-EDTA will be sent by e-mail only.
-We do not accept sponsor/third party e-mail addresses: the personal e-mail address of the member is essential, since all communication from ERA-EDTA must be sent by e-mail directly to the member.

What does it mean to be an Active ERA-EDTA member cat. A/B?

Members (categories A and B) must pay their annual membership fee to remain an active member and receive the membership benefits.

 Membership is considered to be uninterrupted only if the annual membership fee is paid regularly (i.e. every year with no interruptions), thus in order to remain an active member, the membership fee must be settled at the maximum by the end of each year.

Paying outstanding membership fees is not mandatory any more, however in order to apply for consecutive and uninterrupted membership, all years of membership fee/s must be settled.

If an active member has not paid a membership fee for a year and wishes to apply for uninterrupted membership, he/she must settle the pending past year/s, provided that this is however done within a 2-year period.

The outstanding membership fees can be paid for a maximum of 2 years: after this time the member is automatically cancelled from the membership database and must re-apply, as a new member, should he/she wish to become an ERA-EDTA member again.

What does it mean to be a Full or an Associate member?

Full members live in Europe and in the countries bordering Europe and the Mediterranean Sea.

Albania, Algeria, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kosovo*, Latvia, Lebanon, Libya, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, The Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom.
* This designation is without prejudice to positions on status, and is in line with UNSCR 1244/99 and the ICJ Opinion on the Kosovo declaration of independence

Associate members don’t live in Europe and in the countries bordering Europe and the Mediterranean Sea.

Membership cards, receipts and certificate of membership

All active members may view and download their membership cards, payment receipts and certificate of membership, directly from My ERA-EDTA of the ERA-EDTA website (section: Membership documents and information).

In order to access the My ERA-EDTA, all active members must login with their ERA-EDTA credentials.

In order to retrieve the ERA-EDTA credentials, active members can click on “forgot password” in My ERA-EDTA.

ERA-EDTA is GDPR compliant, thus no staff member has access to members’ credentials.

JUNIOR MEMBERS (reserved to members cat. A/B)

Becoming a Junior Member of ERA-EDTA as a young doctor or scientist (up to the age of 40 years old or younger), you will enjoy extra benefits next to the ones offered to all members:

Check out the forum for young nephrologists and nephrological researchers (YOUNG NEPHROLOGISTS PLATFORM – YNP) the aim of which is to give an advising role within the ERA-EDTA for all matters related to members up to the age of 40 year old!

As a Junior member you automatically become YNP members.

By becoming a Member of the Association you will enjoy all the initiatives of the organization with an extremely favorable cost/benefit ratio (click here).

Junior membership ends at the end of the 40th year.

SENIOR MEMBERS (reserved to members cat. A/B)

In order to apply for ERA-EDTA Senior Membership the following three conditions must all be met:

1-Reached 60 years of age;

2-Be retired from active medical practice.

3-Be an active member for at least 15 uninterrupted consecutive years (to be considered at the time of request of the benefit) If an active member has not paid a membership fee for a year/s and wishes to apply for uninterrupted consecutive membership, he/she must settle the pending past year.

Please notice that Senior Membership status is NOT granted automatically but must be requested for.

SENIOR MEMBERS BENEFITS

Senior Members are entitled to the following:

– they have the right to participate in the General Assembly with voice and vote (vote is possible only if they were Full Members);

– they cannot be elected as a member of the Council;

– they will not be required to pay an annual membership fee;

– they can participate in the Congress paying the members’ congress membership fee;

– they are entitled to receive the online subscription of the Journal of the Association, NDT (Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation) free of charge.

– only if they wish, they are entitled to receive the official Journals of the Association, NDT (Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation),  at the cost of production.
