Diabetes and Obesity in Renal Disease in 2019, an update
The fast growing prevalence of obesity, metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes is an important challenge in nephrology. These entities are deeply interrelated. In fact, obesity and metabolic syndrome frequently precede diabetes. Also, overweight, obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, pre-diabetes and diabetes are risk factors for renal disease. All these topics will be discussed in the new meeting of DIABESITY, official Working Group of the ERA-EDTA (Madrid, Spain) November 15-16, 2019.

The European Certificate in Nephrology matures into the European Specialty Exam in Nephrology
After three successful diets of the European Certificate in Nephrology (ECN) exam, the UEMS Renal Section is delighted to announce an exciting new development. Following regulatory approval from the General Medical Council in the UK, a new unified exam in conjunction with the RCPUK Specialty Certificate Exam has been established. The new European Specialty Exam in nephrology (ESENeph) exam, which will replace the ECN will have similar curriculum, content and format to the ECN. The application period for the new exam, which will be held on February 26, 2020, is between November 6, 2019 and December 4, 2019. We would encourage all trainees in Nephrology to test their knowledge of the specialty by taking the exam, which is largely based around practical clinical issues. 1 year FREE ERA-EDTA membership is offered to all the candidates who register and pass the examination.
