During the Alexion-sponsored Satellite Symposium at the 56^th ERA-EDTA Congress in Budapest, Manuel Praga (Madrid, Spain), Bernd Schröppel (Ulm, Germany) and Moglie Le Quintrec (Montpellier, France) discussed about:

• The complexities of reaching a rapid differential diagnosis of patients presenting with thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA), and
• Special care of patients with atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) in the setting of kidney transplantation and pregnancy.
  
  

In addition, an open Q&A panel discussion regarding effective identification and management of aHUS patients was also hosted.

Should donors who have used marijuana be considered candidates for living kidney donation?

The use of marijuana in the USA has been steadily increasing over the last 10 years. This study is the first to investigate the effect of marijuana use by live kidney donors upon outcomes in both donors and recipients.

The ERA-EDTA Council ratified 530 new members (cat. A and B) and, during the annual Congress, according to the new membership rules, ERA-EDTA accepted 5,040 (cat. C) new members: now ERA-EDTA has 9,107 members!

On June 25 2019, the European Kidney Health Alliance (EKHA) held its 6th Annual European Kidney Forum in Brussels (Belgium). With a focus on Organ Donation and Transplantation, stakeholders including policymakers from the European Commission, national competent authorities, patient associations, medical professionals, and representatives from the private sector tackled the fundamental question “Are we meeting the needs of patients?”
