AKI in austere environments

Acute kidney injury (AKI) occurs in more than 13 million people worldwide every year, 85% of whom live in low-income or middle-income countries. The occurrence of and approach to AKI in such settings present special challenges due to often limited health care resources, namely insufficiently trained personnel, diagnostic tools, and treatment options.
