Summary Reports from 55th ERA-EDTA Congress Do we still need calcineurin inhibitors in 2018? Presented by Daniel Abramowicz ![]() Calcineurin inhibitors (CNIs)-based therapy is still a cornerstone of immunosuppressive regimens in kidney transplantation. Nevertheless, their use did not improve long-term graft survival. The possible causes for this may be nephrotoxicity, underimmunesuppression or both. In recent years the problem of inadequate suppression of anti-human leukocyte antigen antibodies by the CNIs has emerged calling for new, safer drugs.
