Dear Member of ERA-EDTA,

I, Dr Cengiz Utas from Turkey, am proud to be candidate to the ERA-EDTA Council membership election in June 2005.

I am Professor of Nephrology and Chair of the Department of Nephrology, which I founded in 1993 at the Erciyes University Medical School in Kayseri, Turkey Since August 2004, I also serve as the President (Rector) of the same (Erciyes) University.

Since 2000, I am Executive Board Member of the Turkish Society of Nephrology (TSN) and the head of the TSN Committees for Congress Organization and for Scholarships. I am also Editor in Chief of the Society's Publication “Turkish Journal of Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation (TNDT)” since 1994. I have contributed to TSN National Congresses as lecturer, panelist and symposium member and since 2000 also as head of the Congress Organization and Congress President. I am also actively involved in our Society's many Educational and Training Courses both as organizer and also member of teaching faculty. In fact, I am the person to have started the very successful yearly TSN Winter School Program, now in its 4 th year.

Since 1993, I have made 58 publications on various subjects of Nephrology in well-known international journals along with more than a hundred articles published in national journals including TNDT. I am also editor of 4 original textbooks in Turkish related to Nephrology & Hemodialysis and author of many chapters in Turkish textbooks in the field. Since March 2005, I also became Editorial Board Member to the Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation journal of the ERA-EDTA.

As Congress Secretary for ERA-EDTA 2005, I am presently also contributing greatly to the organization of the Opening Ceremony & the Congress Social Program.

If elected ERA-EDTA Council Member, I believe that my well proven creative and innovative managerial and organizational skills and my commitment to collaborative team work will enable me to have an important and worthy positive contribution to the work of ERA-EDTA especially in matters concerning the development and advancement of Nephrology in South-Eastern Europe.
