Introduction of the new Registry Committee 2009-2012 |

Christoph Wanner |
This summer the ERA-EDTA Registry Committee 2006-2009 resigned. In addition to Chairman Carmine Zoccali, who is succeeded by Christoph Wanner, the following Registry Committee members reached the end of their term: Reinhard Kramar (Austria), Torbjorn Leivestad (Norway), Alison MacLeod (UK), Fernando Garcia Lopez (Spain) and Jane Tizard (UK).
At the Meeting for national and regional registries on Friday May 22, 2009 during the ERA-EDTA Congress in Milan, Italy, the election of four new members of the Registry Committee took place. Based on the votes from national and regional registries, David Ansell (UK, second term), Pietro Ravani (Italy), Ramon Saracho (Spain), and Staffan Schön (Sweden) were elected. In addition, three new members were selected by the ERA-EDTA Council; Christian Combe (France, second term), Liliana Garneata (Romania), and Faical Jarraya (Tunisia). Finally, Enrico Verrina (Italy, second term) and Franz Schaefer (Germany) will represent the ESPN within the Committee.
The first meeting of the new Registry Committee took place in Bologna, Italy on October 4, 2009. We are looking forward to a fruitful cooperation in the next 3 years with our new Registry Committee. |

Short announcements |
The ERA-EDTA/ESPN Registry has gratefully received a grant from the ERA-EDTA Council for the next 3 years for consolidation of the registry. With the obtained funding the position of registry coordinator Karlijn van Stralen will be expanded. In addition, a data manager and PhD student will be hired so that more studies based on the paediatric data can be performed. An annual report will be published in Pediatric Nephrology, the journal of the International Pediatric Nephrology Association.
The Registry will participate in an FP7-project called SysKID. The 5-year project is expected to start on January 1, 2010. The Registry will participate in the Work Package on epidemiology of CKD. Within this Work Package the Registry will help to develop epidemiology methods and risk score calculators. In addition, it will make an inventory of all available data and studies running in Europe.
In cooperation with Charlie Tomson, David Ansell, Giovanni Cancarini, and Cecile Couchoud, members of the ERA-EDTA Registry staff are preparing a survey on when renal replacement therapy is started. The pilot phase of this study is currently being finalized and nephrologists throughout Europe can expect an invitation to participate in the survey within the next few months. For more information please contact the project coordinator Moniek van de Luijtgaarden: m.w.vandeluijtgaarden@amc.uva.nl.
