Prof. Norbert Lameire (Belgium)
N. Lameire

Prof. N. Lameire is a well-known scientist; instrumental for the dissemination of nephrology knowledge throughout the world. His excellent work published in over 500 papers in many prestigious Journals, focus mainly on renal hemodynamics, clinical and experimental acute renal failure and peritoneal transport. He presented several hundreds of remarkable talks in many national and international meetings, thus he is among the best international educators of nephrology. We all are aware of his lifelong commitment to the advancement of nephrology in Europe and the world. There is no one single nephrologist in Europe who hasn't learned some aspects of nephrology from one of his lectures.
Prof. N. Lameire performed a tremendous job as Editor-in-Chief of Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation (NDT), which made the Journal more prestigious.
His extraordinary coordinative work in the Renal Disaster Relief Task Force saved hundreds of crush-AKI patients; this humanitarian effort was especially useful during the Marmara disaster-Turkey in 1999, which caused 639 AKI crush victims. His work in COMGAN, helped very much for dissemination of knowledge throughout the world. Last, but not least, Prof. Lameire’s leadership as the founding Co-Chair of KDIGO, deeply affected practice patterns around the globe and was instrumental in saving lives of thousands of kidney patients.

Prof. Eberhard Ritz (Germany)

E. Ritz

Professor E. Ritz is a European-wide nephrologist and a world leader in the field. His scientific work went into almost any area of nephrology. He published hundreds articles in peer-reviewed world journals, with outstanding scientific impact particularly in the topics of the interaction of kidney and blood pressure, cardiovascular remodelling in uraemia, diabetic nephropathy, calcium-phosphate metabolism disturbances and effects of smoking on the kidney. For many decades he flowed with numerous CME activities world-wide, with continuous never-ending educational support for both developed and developing countries, with excellent practical skills and great personality. Prof. Stanley Shaldon (Monaco)

S. Shaldon

Dr. Shaldon is one of the “founding fathers” of the ERA-EDTA in 1964. His vision granted the development of one of the most successful European Scientific Societies today – with now more than 6.000 members – which he guided for many years. Over decades, his scientific work has always been outstanding, with over 350 peer-reviewed publications as a pioneer in the fields of (home) dialysis, ultrafiltration and treatment of ESRD, including ground-breaking clinical inventions such as the “Shaldon-catheter” (Lancet 1961), as it is known all over the world. Further, he has been a great teacher and mentor bringing up and influencing many of the current leaders in European and world-wide Nephrology. For all his major clinical, scientific and personal contributions, Dr. Shaldon was already appointed as Honorary Member of the ERA-EDTA in 1994.
