The Department of Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation at the A. Manzoni Hospital is dedicated to the advancement in the knowledge and understanding of renal disease, its development, progression, treatment and prevention. The Staff is at the forefront of research and patient care in the field of Nephrology. Comprehensive services for nephrology outpatient and inpatient care, dialysis, and kidney transplant services are provided at Manzoni Hospital.
The centre takes part in different national and international research trials, in some of them as coordinator centre. The Nephrology Department cooperates with Milano Bicocca University in training students and fellows.
The objective of this course is to insert the participants in the routine activities of the Department and to give them a view of its work in a very practical way.
Participants will be divided in groups and will attend daily clinical activities. They will attend nephrology and dialysis department and will participate in vascular accesses surgery and angioplasty session, renal biopsy and renal ecography laboratory.
During the afternoon they will attend classes about the topics dealt with during the morning activities: dialysis techniques, dialysate composition, dialysis membrane characteristics, CRF complications, ARF therapy...

Some time will be devoted to clinical trials discussion: how to design and follow a research study protocol.
