To briefly report the last “ERA-EDTA Highlights” at the ASN in San Diego I would like to start saying that the hall was so packed that the security people had to control the queue outside the hall.

This certainly indicates the success of the session which was noticed by the new ASN CME activity coordinator, Paul Kimmel, who planned to have a bigger room in San Francisco. This session was chaired by Paul Kimmel and our President, Jorge Cannata-Andia.

The Highlights reviewed the best reports of the Glasgow meeting that had been held in July 2006, new insights into the origin and treatment of various renal diseases including the substitution treatments of dialysis and transplantation. Here are the details:
Glomerulonephritis: pathogenesis and treatment. Rosanna Coppo.
Chronic kidney disease: clinical trials and new perspectives. Cristoph Wanner.
Dialysis: new technologies Norbert Lameire.
Transplantation: new protocols and new worries Josep M Grinyo.

For 2007 the programme will continue with 2006 “ASN Highlights” in Barcelona (ERA-EDTA - link) and 2007 “ERA-EDTA Highlights” in San Francisco (ASN - link).
