Mazzaferro

Sandro Mazzaferro is Professor of Nephrology and Head of the Nephrologic Unit at the Polo Pontino of the University “La Sapienza” of Rome. Dr. Mazzaferro gained his medical degree and specializations in Internal Medicine and in Nephrology at the University La Sapienza in Rome. He is an Ordinary Member of ERA-EDTA and a Core-member of the CKD-MBD WG Working Group Advisory Board and Member of the EURECAm WG. He is a member of the editorial board of the official journal of the ERA-EDTA Society, Nephrology Dialysis and Transplantation. He is a member and past Coordinator of the Italian Study Group on Mineral Metabolism.
His research areas of special interest include divalent ions metabolism in renal failure, secondary hyperparathyroidism and renal osteodystrophy with bone histology assessment. He is conducting clinical research on the pathophysiology and treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism and renal osteodystrophy in renal patients in conservative or hemodialysis therapy and after renal transplantation, including evaluation of calcifications.
His clinical experience includes the management of patients with acute or chronic renal failure requiring conservative or hemodialysis therapy, and the management of renal transplant and nephrolithiasis patients.
