Jordi Bover is Professor of Nephrology Research, Nephrology Department, Fundació Puigvert, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Dr Bover received his medical degree from the University of Barcelona, where he also completed his nephrology specialization and his PhD. He did a research fellowship on pathophysiology of secondary hyperparathyroidism at the Nephrology Department of the Wadsworth Veteran Affairs Medical Center (UCLA), Los Angeles, USA, and in his third year there he worked as a research fellow for the National Kidney Foundation of Southern California.
Dr Bover’s authored or co-authored articles in Kidney International, Transplantation, Nephrology Dialysis and Transplantation, Journal of the American Society of Nephrology and other international journals. In addition, he has contributed chapters to key nephrology textbooks such as Brenner’s The Kidney, as well as other Spanish journals and books. He is also a peer-reviewer for several international and national journals and served as vice-president of all the editions (CIN2000 to CIN2013) of the Congress of Nephrology in Internet  (http://cin2011.uninet.edu/en/welcome.html).
He is currently a board member of the CKD-MBD Working Group of the ERA-EDTA. Dr Bover’s principal clinical activity and research interests are early diagnosis of chronic kidney disease, chronic kidney disease and disturbances in mineral metabolism as cardiovascular risk factors, as well as the pathophysiology and treatment of chronic kidney disease-mineral bone disorders (CKD-MBD). He has organized symposiums and meetings on CKD-MBD and he has lectured on the previously mentioned topics in more than 30 different countries.
