The Registry has recently launched the QUEST initiative (Quality European Studies), a short-medium term initiative designed to promote quality and research in clinical epidemiology in Europe.
The Council has also approved and initiated the “ARPA” project (Arrest Renal disease Progression Aim), a pan-European research project now in preparation, and the Research Fellowship programme, partially integrated into the ARPA project but which can also run independently to promote the exchange of clinical and basic researchers throughout Europe.

What steps have been taken to consolidate these achievements?
We have already introduced some changes into our Constitution with the creation of the “Research and Educational Fund” which has been designed specifically for the promotion of these three areas I have described above.
The ERA-EDTA is planning to invest more than 2 million Euros in these three initiatives in less than two years.
We have also streamlined and homogenised our administrative infrastructure so that all our activities function correctly and efficiently, and so that they continue to do so.

Jorge B. Cannata-Andía is Secretary-Treasurer of the ERA-EDTA
and has been nominated President-elect.
