Get ready for the European Certificate in Nephrology!

The Renal Section and Board of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) and the ERA-EDTA are working jointly to harmonize European Nephrology training and to develop the ‘European Certificate in Nephrology’.
Young Nephrologists are warmly invited to register for the exam when the application website opens in November 2016.

European Nephrectomy BioBank (ENBiBA)

Obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2DM) are two major causes of renal diseases all over the world. Diabesity, an ERA-EDTA Working group, created a bio-bank of unaffected renal tissue of pieces of nephrectomy aimed at analysing pathogenic pathways involved in renal damage associated with T2DM and obesity.

New DOPPS Analysis: Is there an association between changes in quality of life and mortality?
A total of 13 784 patients in the Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study had measurements of quality of life (QOL), which involved measurements of the physical and mental performances. The study used a Cox regression model and found out that the predictive power of one measurement of QOL is not sufficient to show an association, more frequent QOL measurements are needed to improve the prediction of outcomes in HD.

DASH diet is safe in CKD patients
Although the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet lowers blood pressure (BP) for adults with normal kidney function, evidence is lacking regarding its safety and efficacy in chronic kidney disease (CKD). This prospective study with 11 CKD patients (30 –59 ml/min/1.73 m2) showed that a reduced-sodium DASH dietary pattern does not cause acute metabolic events in adults with moderate CKD and may improve nocturnal BP.
