Antibody induction therapy following kidney transplantation should be targeted to increased-risk transplants
Antibody induction with polyclonal rabbit-antithymocyte globulin (rATG) or an interleukin-2 receptor antagonist (IL−2RA) is widely used in kidney transplantation. But as the new analysis of 38,311 first deceased-donor kidney transplants (2004-13) by Gerhard Opelz et al. showed there are no beneficial effects of antibody induction in normal-risk transplants. Which phosphate binder? Insights from the NICOREN study
The NICOREN study, a multicentre, open-label and randomized study by Aurelie Lenglet et al., examined the non-inferiority and safety of Nicotinamide (NAM) when compared with sevelamer (SEV) in chronic hemodialysis patients. One hundred patients were randomized to either NAM or SEV treatment for 24 weeks. It showed that both drugs are equally effective in lowering serum phosphorous, but patients` tolerance of NAM was largely inferior to that of SEV. Read more

This year, at the ERA-EDTA Congress in Vienna, Austria, Michel Jadoul (France) and Gert Mayer (Austria) completed their three-year term as ordinary members of Council.
Eight members submitted their candidacies in an on-line election and the two successful candidates announced at the General Assembly on 23 May 2016 were:
